How do you use a crate?

Crates

The crate is used not only as a place for your dog to spend time in the car, or at your home, but also plays an important role in protecting your dog’s personal safety.  It’s perfect for a house, a place to eat, or as a bed.

This way, a crate is an item that becomes a room for your dog to spend time in. It feels like a small room. It’s a cozy space where your dog fits comfortably.

How to choose a crate?

When choosing a crate, it is recommended that you consider the intended use and then select correct the size and shape.

When used for going out

If you want to use it as a place where a dog can stay when at home, you can choose it according to your preference. Consider choosing the size depending on the purpose. It depends on whether your dog will use it just for sleeping or for eating. Ideally, the crate used in your house should not be too large. For pet dogs, a small space becomes a cozy space where they can relax.

Recommended crate for leisure use

Let’s give top priority to safety

If you want to enjoy your leisure time with your dog, you definitely want to choose a fashionable crate. It would be ideal if you can find a crate with excellent functionality while giving top priority to safety. There is also a soft type crate that is lightweight and convenient to carry, but from a safety viewpoint, a hard one such as plastic is recommended.

Also, the plastic crate is convenient because it can be quickly cleaned even when it gets really dirty. When traveling for a long time, it is better to attach it.  It is more secure if it’s the type that can be fastened with a seat belt, which will be suitable for when your dog is in a moving car.

Convenient to move with casters

When carrying a crate by hand, medium-sized dogs and large dogs are heavy, so it is best to choose one with casters. The foldable type is also convenient if you do not use it frequently, such as for leisure only.

There are also fashionable crates with handles on mesh baskets and crates with space for small items such as snacks and wet wipes. There are a lot of color variations these days as well.

Recommended crate to use at home

Make sure that the crate you use at home has a relaxing environment inside. Make sure that the size is neither too large nor too small, and that it is easy to get in and out of. It is also a good idea to use a soft type crate according to the usage.

Crate training procedure

  • Prepare a crate that is sized to fit your dog and that opens outward with a removable door, and place it somewhere your dog can feel at ease.
  • First, give your dog their favorite snacks in the crate so they get used to the crate. It is also recommended to place snacks side by side near the crate and guide them to enter the crate with the snack. You can hide toys in the crate so that they can move them in and out of the crate as an extension of play.
  • Once your pet gets used to the crate, have them practice entering the crate by calling out a phrase such as ‘house.’ If they can stay inside, try getting them to sit and lie down.
  • When your pet can relax in the crate, try closing the door. If they’re scared, open it right away so they don’t think the crate is a trap. If you can close the door, gradually increase the amount of time they spend inside and gradually get them used to it.

Don’t scold your pet if it makes a mistake!

Don’t scold your pet if they excrete in a crate. It’s important to have fun training so they can think of the crate as a fun place. If you can close the door and have your pet stay for a long time, you will be able to enjoy going out with your dog.

Let’s choose the crate = room that suits your dog

There are several types of places for your dog, such as cages, circles, and crates, but crates are just like important rooms and beds. We want them to have a space where they can relax with peace of mind. Find the best crate for your dog and they will enjoy it!
